Thanksgiving may be known for pumpkin pie, but are you familiar with #RaspberryPi?
Raspberry Pi, a single-circuit board computer, was developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Broadcom and can be used in a variety of settings, from basic computer science for school-aged children to research application at the national laboratory level. At the size of a credit card, RasPi boasts relatively massive computational power, as seen within ORNL’s C-STAR project.
Created to provide a complete package for vehicle and transportation security, the C-STAR edge device can monitor speed, component temperatures, vehicle status, and other vehicle functions, as well as oversight to anomalies, intrusions, or other problems preventing the vehicle from arriving at its destination.
“The RasPi deployed on the C-STAR is the heart of the device,” says C-STAR researcher Adian Cook. “It provides the computational power to run the necessary algorithms as well as connection to the inputs and outputs needed for C-STAR functionality.”
As we gear up for Thanksgiving festivities, we can all be thankful for transport security professionals like Adian, security projects like C-STAR, and both pumpkin pies and Raspberry Pis.
